Improving efficiency at the workplace through ICT and enhanced business processes

Commonwealth workshop for Caribbean officials looks at impact on public sector reform

Using information and communication technology (ICT) innovations to implement public sector transformation initiatives, including re-engineering business processes, are the skills that delegates at a Commonwealth Caribbean workshop will be picking up in Grenada.

The event, which takes place in the Grenadian capital, St George’s, from 7 to 12 March 2011, will bring together 25 officials from 10 Caribbean countries.

Co-organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration, the workshop will also help participants to develop an enhanced understanding of key issues in planning, communicating and implementing organisational change.

"The workshop is designed to transfer knowledge on business process re-engineering (BPR) to delegates and reinforce these concepts through case studies. The delegates will develop concrete action plans to implement re-engineering initiatives in their respective organisations. This could involve the deployment of a short term expert to some Commonwealth Caribbean countries to support them with the implementation of BPR,” said Anthony Ming, Public Sector Informatics Adviser at the Secretariat.

"BPR involves radical change and drastic improvement in cost, speed and quality of public service delivery. Technology is a key enabler to implement re-designed processes and to provide innovative solutions to effect change."
