Secretary-General meets key leaders in Solomon Islands

Commonwealth Secretary-General discusses development, security and regional assistance with governor-general and key leaders.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon met the Governor-General of Solomon Islands Sir Nathaniel Waena, the Speaker of Parliament Sir Peter Kenilorea and the Acting Leader of the Opposition, Snyder Rini in Honiara on 27 October 2006.

Discussions in all those meetings addressed socio-political development and security issues, including the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands.

Mr McKinnon is on a 5-day visit to the Commonwealth Pacific country following his attendance at the Pacific Islands Forum in Fiji Islands from 23-25 October.
