The Commonwealth Secretariat's Human Rights work

The Commonwealth Secretariat is very active in defending human rights. We work under the radar screen, preferring quiet diplomacy to media campaigns.

We build national human rights institutions, we train journalists and sensitise governments to respect their rights, and we work behind the scenes with governments and civil society to cause change.‬‪‪​

We hold out a practical and helping hand to all, and will continue to take this approach because it is the Commonwealth way. It has proven an effective diplomatic strategy.
