Call for young people to contribute to ministers meeting

11 December 2012

Are you aged 15-29 and a Commonwealth citizen? Tell us what you think Commonwealth youth ministers should discuss when they meet next April

The Commonwealth has set up a ‘Youth Voices in the Commonwealth – 2013’ online space for you to submit and vote on the questions you would like ministers to address at the 8th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting (CYMM).

By sharing your ideas and concerns you can help define the top issues for ministers to consider and discuss when they meet in Papua New Guinea from 15 to 19 April 2013. Contributors could also win an iPad.

CYMM takes place every four years, and is a critical opportunity for ministers to advance the Commonwealth’s youth development agenda and contribute to the debate on emerging issues. It uniquely includes youth representatives at all levels of decision-making, including a seat and voice at the ministerial table.

The theme for next year’s Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting, ‘Young people at the centre of development’, speaks directly to the critical role of young people in our 54 member countries.

By using ‘Youth Voices in the Commonwealth – 2013’ you can identify issues affecting you and your peers, such as education, employment, health, the environment, leadership, equality and social inclusion.

The closing date is 21 December 2012.

    My question to the youth minister is what are the success stories and progress so far that have done in their respective counties and regions towards AU Decade of the African Youth 2009 -2018. My second question will centre on the theme young people at the centre of development ,What would be the roles of your various government in ensuring global peace by placing us at the forefront as change agent.

    The key to building stronger rural communities around the world is to strengthen it's agricultural businesses. Beginning with access to education, rights to land and water and developing co-operatives to offer support and market opportunities. My question to the ministers would be: What support is given to young leaders in agriculture? What value do you put on developing global networks where the exchange of knowledge and experience takes place and where ideas are generated?

    I would like the CYMM to focus more on youth entrepreneurship development and management and also put emphasis on Governance issues if we are to mentor better leaders for tomorrow as we all know that young people are future leaders. Thanks and wish you a fruitful CYMM .

    I think a youth meeting is a great way for young people to share ideas, and find solutions to the problems in the world. We need to teach younger people to care about these issues, because many older generations depend on the younger generation; and need to know what challenges they are dealing with.
