Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in focus at Marlborough House meeting

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni visited the Commonwealth Secretariat's headquarters at Marlborough House, London, for talks with Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon on 20 November 2006.

The President and the Secretary-General discussed preparations for the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kampala, Uganda.

President Museveni was confident that Uganda would be ready for the upcoming CHOGM.

"We are prepared for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November 2007," he said.

President Museveni saw great benefits being derived from the summit. "The linkages and partnerships we shall get out of meetings are all very important."

Mr McKinnon stated that with only a year to go to CHOGM the pace was intensifying, with the formal announcement of the theme and CHOGM logo expected shortly.

"Managing a CHOGM today is a big event. It is not just the 53 Commonwealth leaders. It is a business council meeting. It is a people's forum. It is a youth meeting," he said.

"Things are moving in the right direction. The President has undertaken that he will monitor preparations closely."
