thecommonwealth@60 Anniversary Song

5 April 2009

An anniversary song performed by Students of Buea University, announcing celebrations marking the Commonwealth Day 2009 and the Commonwealth's 60th anniversary in Cameroon. Composed by Mr Ndumbe Mosaso, Service Head for Cultural Clubs and Associations, University of Buea - Cameroon.

Intro…

The Commonwealth at sixty is like a mighty bridge

That links many nations in one bond of peace.

Yes, the many friendly states, all in one accord,

Stand for world peace and concord.

Verse1

The Commonwealth today is serving the new generation

The leaders of tomorrow in all nations.

We’re called to heed the call to work for our people and countries,

To build for our future youth.

Verse 2

And when the games are nigh and brought the nations together,

The youth of every nation aiming so high,

Would want to go for gold, go for fame and glory;

They all want to reach for the skies.

Chorus (Sung after each verse)

I hear the children sing, “This is the day to remember,

A day to celebrate and thank the Mighty One”.

I hear the billion voices shouting in their numbers;

“The Commonwealth day is here once again”.
