Ghana elections: Commonwealth observers say process is credible, so far

They have called on all the people in the country to continue to be calm and peaceful as they await the final results

The Commonwealth Observer Group for Ghana elections has said the process has so far been conducted in a credible manner and called on all the people in the country to continue to be calm and peaceful as they await the final results.

While making interim observations of the Group at a press briefing in Accra, the capital of Ghana, on 9 December 2008, the chairperson of the Observer Group, Baroness Valerie Amos, said: "Our overall assessment thus far is that the observed voting and counting process has been conducted in a credible manner."

She added: "At this crucial stage of the electoral process, the Commonwealth Observer Group calls on all Ghanaians to continue to exercise patience as the Electoral Commission concludes its work."
