Deputy Spokesperson appointed to Africa Education award jury

9 April 2008

Commonwealth Secretariat Deputy Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu has been appointed to the judging panel of the Africa Education Journalism Award

Mr Esipisu, a diplomat from Kenya, was named to the panel by the award organisers, Paris-based Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and its Working Group on Communications for Education and Development. It is part of ADEA's effort towards improving education in Africa and recognises the best articles on education published in the African media.

"The major goal in creating this Award was to encourage excellence in education reporting and highlight the paramount importance of relevant and quality public information and communication for the development of education in Africa," ADEA said.

"I am honoured by this invitation to join the panel judging this year's competition," Mr Esipisu stated.

"I share in ADEA's ideals of encouraging African journalists to write quality articles on education and getting African newspapers to publish regular columns and supplements on education – a significant sector in development," added Mr Esipisu, who is also responsible for media development at the Secretariat.

The panel met in Tunisia on 7-8 April 2008 to make its decision in respect of this year's winners, who will be invited to ADEA's biennial conference on education in Africa, to be held from 5 to 9 May this year in Mozambique.
