Pacific region loses champion of governance and prosperity

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Kamalesh Sharma, on 12 August 2008 conveyed his condolences on behalf of the Commonwealth Secretariat and wider Commonwealth community, following the death of Greg Urwin, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Secretary-General
“Greg's contribution to the Pacific region was enormous. He championed the improvement of governance and the advancement of prosperity for all in the Pacific region. His contribution was deeply appreciated and reflected in the Pacific as well as in the wider Commonwealth community,” Mr Sharma said. “His good humour, enthusiasm for the Pacific, and dedication and commitment will be greatly missed.”
