British band to take the spotlight at ComCelebrate!

Indie rock will resound throughout Marlborough House on 14 March 2008 when the Lux Lisbon band takes the spotlight at ComCelebrate! The concert, to be staged at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, UK, will present talent across the Commonwealth.

“Our music is of the epic indie rock kind, with a broad layering of the guitar, violin, drums, keyboard and vocals,” said Stuart, who fronts the six-member Lux Lisbon band. “Our songs will bring out the musical quality of every instrument in the melodies that we play.”

The up-and-coming British band comprises Ali Jones on bass guitar, Chris How Kin Sang on guitar, Charlotte Austen on vocals/guitar, Kris Toczek on drums, Eleanor Garlick on violin and Stuart on vocals/piano.

Lux Lisbon will perform a selection of original compositions at ComCelebrate! which include numbers such as ‘Plastic Lullaby’, ‘Nobody Else Will Know’, ‘We’ll Dance Till The Morning Comes’, 'Cherry Blossom Tree' and 'Sunflower'. The songs composed by Stuart reflect his observations about society -- the real world and the world of make believe that some people live in when they are driven by the social mores and pressures to seek avenues of escape into a world of their own to find their comfort zones. Stuart's songs also explore love and commitment, and celebrate the thrill of romance.

The band, which was formed three years ago while the members were undergraduates at Nottingham University, hopes to record an album that will put them on the international music charts. In November 2007, the Lux Lisbon band members moved to London to find fame by playing at bigger clubs and concert venues. They hold regular jobs in the day time and perform in the evenings and on weekends. The band gets together regularly to rehearse under a railway arch near Clapham Junction while waiting for their big break.

“It would be great to have a chart-topper one day. It won’t be easy. But we’ll get there as we travel along the path of discovery in the world of music,” said Stuart.
