Sixteen journalists from the Commonwealth converged in Kampala, Uganda, June 10-11 for a course on Business Leadership and Gender in the Media under the theme of “Financing gender equality”, on the sidelines of the 8th Women Affairs Ministers Meeting (8WAMM)
They debated best practise in business reporting, promoting gender equality, work place performance and human resources management. The course was convened by the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Communications and Public Affairs Division and managed by Makerere University Business School.
Funding for the course came from the Social Transformation Programmes Division, the Hubs & Spokes project and Commonwealth Media Development Fund. “Going forward, I will increasingly focus on Small and medium Enterprises and other business initiatives by women as critical sources of news,” one participant said after the course. Journalists on the course stayed in Uganda to cover the 8WAMM meeting June 12-14.
