Students visited several heritage sites
The Department of Youth Affairs of St Vincent and the Grenadines in collaboration with the Regional Youth Caucus representative Ms Shenica Haynes conducted a successful Youth Heritage Tour of several local communities in observance of Caribbean Youth Day on September 30.
The objective of the tour was to teach young people about some of the tourist attractions on the Leeward side of the country and to raise awareness of the various aspects of the islands.
Some of the areas visited were Richmond, the Vermont Nature Trail, the Layou Petroglyph, the Darkview Falls, the local prison at Glebe and the Landfill.
During the tour various aspects of the sites and their history were highlighted by the guide. The students were also educated about the need to protect and save the various heritage sites. Students also took the opportunity to take notes and ask questions.
Teachers and Youth Officers from the Ministry of Youth also benefited from the exercise and were challenged to share the information with others.
