Homage To People who Died of AIDS
Homage To People who Died of AIDS"
On 25th May 2007 (Friday) , Commonwealth Youth Programme Asia Centre paid homage to all those who passed because of HIV/AIDS by lighting the lamps in the shape of AIDS logo. This event was organized by Commonwealth Youth Ambassador for Positive Living, Mr. Gaurav Gaur to mark the ongoing Global AIDS week of Action marked across the world. Mr. Raj K. Mishra, Regional Director of CYP Asia Centre while lighting the first lamp said "let's light a lamp in rememberance of those departed because of this dreaded pandemic". He also applauded work of Mr. Gaur in raising awareness on HIV and AIDS through creative activities.
The motive behind the event was to join hands to combat against AIDS and also to demand support from civil society to stand together for greater participation in the decision-making bodies. "At the same time every little step that an individual can take spreading the awareness and educating another individual about HIV, matters in this fight" said Mr. Hassan Shifau, Programme Manager encouraging the Youth Ambassadors.
Last year, activists from 30 countries took coordinated action during the first ever Global AIDS week of Action. As the data shows that 8000 people die daily because of AIDS.
