CYP Asia Centre celebrated Baisakhi in its campus in collaboration with Environment Society of India, Chandigarh
The Commonwealth Youth Programme Asia Centre (CYP) celebrated Baisakhi dated 13 April 2007 in its campus in collaboration with Environment Society of India, Chandigarh.
Dr. Fatiha Serour, Director of Youth Affairs Division, Commonwealth Secretariat, London was the Chief Guest for this function. She wished Baisakhi and New year greetings to all present. She appreciated the dance performances by Parachinar Cultural group of Chamba and girls from Centre Craft Institute. She also distributed mementoes to artists. She emphasized that youth are very close to her heart as CYP works for their development.
The cultural performances included the Khattak Dance, Chamba Dance and Dandika Dance performed by Parachinar Cultural group of Chamba. Parachinar is a beautiful town on Pakistan-Afghanistan border and is a part of Darra Khurrum, Khyber. These Parachinars migrated to India after partitaion and resettled in Chamba and have preserved their culture. The performance also included the folk dance Gidda of Punjab by girls of Centre Craft Institute. Mr. Raj K. Mishra, Regional Director presided over the function and said that such performances involving youth are always supported by CYP as these give a platform to youth to showcase their talent. Mr. Mishra also thanked Environment Society of India for their initiative.
On this occasion Mr. Rajat Som demonstrated the Solar Projector that could filter sunlight and makes it easier to review Sun's Corona. This he developed himself and his innovation was applauded by various scientists. About 150 boys and girls from Govt. Centre Craft Institute, Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School, Sector 23 and Govt. High School, Naya Gaon also visited the CYP's Nature Discovery Camp to learn about environment conservation and join the Baisakhi celebrations.
