Monday, exactly seven (7) days before the 2008 Commonwealth Day, started like any other sunny and hot day at the CYP Africa Centre - but not for long. The "fever" of the ever approaching Commonwealth Week Celebrations had been etching its way into the spirits of staff and partners for some days now. The acute sounds of the celebrations had been trumpeting its barrels joyfully since the RYC Capacity Building workshop was crowned with a night of spectacular music and dance a few weeks ago now.
'Music and dance, the soul of the African identity - can any African moment be enjoyable without them?'
A group of five young men aged below 19 years treated the Staff of CYP AC to a series of spectacular acapellaperformances that Monday afternoon. The five-member "Big Five Anointed Singers, B-FAS" all students of Lusaka High School, had been commissioned by CYP RCA to present a series of songs on this year's Commonwealth Week theme, The Environment Our Future - and they excelled beyond merit.
The joy of participants after the musical presentation was that of elatedness and awe for the prowess of the young singers. After several encouraging words to the singers by staff led by the acting Regional Director, Mr. James Odit, the B-FAS now moves on to prepare for their next assignment.
CYP RCA has commissioned the recording of the Commonwealth Week theme song, which will be played throughout the up-coming events dutifully scheduled by the CYP Africa team for the participation of all.
