Commonwealth Day Poem - Women Agents of Change

14 March 2011

Women Agents of Change Poem by Kamulanga High School Written and Directed by Darius Mangwatu For the 2011 Commonwealth Day

This is what it is

It is what it is

No one can take it away

That point must go down

“Women Agents of Change’’

Effecting a positive change

That point must go down

Women yes indeed

Agents of Change

Shaping our destiny for a purpose

Year after year 26 million girls are born in the Commonwealth

But their future is at stake

Due to the fact that

The majority do not get to have a chance to grow up and become healthy

The majority do not get to have a chance to become educated women

Educated women! Who can make a positive difference to their own lives and the lives of others

It is our wish and desire

That the girl child could stay on at school

Acquiring skills and knowledge

To generate income.

Gaining respect and dignity

It is our wish and desire

That we lived in a world

Where every mother had access to medical care

And her baby was born healthy

And she knew about HIV/AIDS

And could make informed decisions about her health and relationships

Women the backbone of our nation

The engine of our economy

The much needed fuel to accelerate development

The point must go down

The heart of a woman

The heart of our nation

The heart of nations and nations

The world at large recognises the importance of women in our societies

This is a true reflection of how great her contribution is to the Commonwealth

There is need for a safe home, good food, clean water, access to a health clinic for each and every girl child

In order to reorder the disordered society

Access to education should be overemphasised at all cost

To learn important skills and be able to socialise

Provide an opportunity for a young woman

For her to achieve her goals

To participate in political governance

Women should be empowered

Empowered with a loan

To venture into entrepreneurship

Yes this is wealth creation

Job creation

Infact

As a matter of fact

In actual fact

In actual sense

Know for a fact

Women are the integral part of development

Effecting a positive change to society

“Women Agents of Change”

That point must go down

Consequently we need more women to represent us as leaders

The affluence of a woman

With respect to her influence

At the confluence cannot be overemphasised

Due to the vitality and ability of the woman, development will be a mere rhetoric

If you overlook the vitality

Endowed in the splendour

The glamour

The valour

Of the woman

Let us recapitulate and reconsider

The realisation of the realised

Glory of a woman in the commonwealth

Let us conceptualise and actualise

The good and the glory

That a woman contributes to our economy

That point must go down
