Kuomboka Youth Group (KYG) Receives Silver Award

The handover date was set for August, unfortunately it could not take place as the Republican President of Zambia Dr. levy Patrick Mwanawasa had passed on in Percy Military hospital in Paris. Zambia was mourning for 21 days and consequently went into campaign period and elections. When this was over, a new date was set to receive the award.

The Long awaited event took place on Friday, 21st November, 2008 in Mongu district of western province, Zambia. 20 KYG members received silver medals, certificate of participation and 1,000 British Pounds was allocated for the group.

The youth group decided to participate in the Human Rights Advocacy and Awareness project because it was noted that many people in rural areas had little or no information about human rights. Therefore the Kuomboka Youth Group had put up efforts addressing Human rights based issues in the community.

The Kuomboka Youth Group had made history. It was indeed a great privilege to be recognized by a big organisation like the CommonwealthYouthProgrammes (CYP).

Am therefore appealing to my fellow youths that let's refrain from activities that will affect our lives negatively. As we are all aware, youths are faced by a number of challenges. Especially in Mongu, challenges such as unemployment, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancies and early marriages have continued to take lead in the district. However, these challenges can only be overcome by us the youth. Therefore we need to pull out efforts together by forming youth organisations that will bring development to our communities and sustainable livelihoods. Governments and stake holders are willing to aid our already made efforts.
