A two-day skills building workshop on ‘Young people and Women in Peace-building’ will take place on 25 and 26 April in Colombo
The vulnerability of young people and women is well known in any country grappling with conflict and war situations. Both young people and women are too vast a resource to be wasted as they possess enormous energy as well as innovative thinking to contribute significantly in peace-building processes. With this rationale, a two day skill building workshop on ‘Young people and Women in Peace-building’ will be organised on 25 and 26 April in Colombo in which Commonwealth youth representatives and women’s representatives will participate. This workshop is being organised in close collaboration with the Gender section of the Commonwealth Secretariat. The objectives of the workshop are:
During the workshop, peace-building analysis, peace-building processes, conflict analysis, conflict handling mechanisms, conflict analysis tools, peace-building skills, democracy and social inclusion and Civil Paths to Peace – Respect and Understanding will be discussed.
It is hoped that youth and women’s representatives will be able to gain more technical knowledge, competence and skills in peace building thereby choosing to be ‘’proactive’’ in peace related initiatives and campaign in their respective areas of work and influence.
