Welcome Gender and Trade Member
The Gender and Trade discussions Forums were initiated in June 2007 with the aim of knowledge sharing and catalyzing public debates on the problems and prospects of mainstreaming gender with trade policy and practice across the Commonwealth countries. Together with the section on case studies as presented on the website, it is hoped that the dialogues would also facilitate and promote cross country and cross sector learnings and experiences and help eventually in generating some ideas towards building best practices and success stories which can be replicated elsewhere. The discussions have been conceptualized by the Commonwealth Secretariat in partnership with GATI.
In the first instance, the Forum would be accessible to the participants and resource persons of the previous workshops organized by the Gender Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat on Gender, Trade Policy and Export Promotion in the East African, Carribean and South Asian regions. After considering the experiences of the respective forums thus conducted for a period to be decided upon, a view shall be taken on whether the forum membership ought to be expanded and if so how.
