The August 2007, Gender and Trade Newsletter

The gender and trade bimonthly newsletter is a modest effort to carry forward the agenda of mainstreaming gender into trade policies and practices at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels, given that the issues are yet to receive adequate attention from academics, policy makers, civil society and the media alike.

There is an urgent need to engage with the issues and adequately sensitise the concerned authorities and others related to the issues. The newsletter, together with the gender and trade website, is an attempt to generate new information and analysis for raising awareness for action and towards furthering the overall objective of gender mainstreaming in trade.

We are happy to present before you the second bimonthly Gender and Trade Newsletter for August 2007. This edition of the newsletter contains an update of the events at the Commonwealth’s 8th Women’s Affairs Ministers’ Meeting (8WAMM) as well as at the Regional Capacity Building Workshop on Gender, Trade Policy and Export Promotion held in Windhoek, Namibia, an article on women’s employment in marine products export in India as well as the usual sections on review and other resources.
