UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Launches Campaign to End Violence against Women

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched a multi-year campaign to intensify action to end violence against women and girls.
This follows the Secretary-General’s indepth study on violence against women. The study indicates that “there is compelling evidence that violence against women is severe and pervasive throughout the world”. Surveys on violence against women conducted in at least 71 countries show that a significant proportion of women suffer physical, sexual or psychological violence. The campaign is aimed to mobilize public opinion to ensure that policy makers at the highest level work to prevent and eradicate violence against women.
