New Website Launched to Monitor Progress on the Millennium Development Goals

1 Nov 2007

An online tool to monitor global progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) was launched at UN Headquarters on Wednesday.

MDG Monitor website, a partnership between the UN Development Programme (UNDP), Google and Cisco, will be used to gather data in the fight to lift millions out of poverty by 2015.

Michael T. Jones is Google Chief Technologist

JONES GOOGLE: Google's collaboration with UNDP represents a belief that the MDGs stand for basic and critical human progress. So we're excited to be part of such an important undertaking, and we're proud to have the ability to play our little part. We're not the source of the information, but we are the hub of sharing the information with many of the people of the world.

MDG Monitor will track progress toward achieving the eight Millennium Development Goals in a number of categories in nearly every country in the world. The site will present the most current data from multiple sources in areas like public health, education and women's empowerment.
