Economics and Trade

The Commonwealth is committed to the Millennium Development Goals, which include targets on eliminating extreme poverty and hunger, promoting gender equality, ensuring environmental sustainability, and developing a global partnership for development.

The Secretariat works to achieve these goals through a range of programmes to promote economic growth and alleviate poverty, both at the macroeconomic level through advocacy, consensus-building and policy advice, and through hands-on development assistance delivered via the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation.
