Thematic Prospectus for 2006 Ministersial Forum On Public Sector Development

THEMATIC PROSPECTUS

The Commonwealth Secretariat, through its Governance and Institutional Development Division (GIDD), is convening a forum for ministers responsible for public service. The Forum is scheduled for 26-27 October 2006 in Sydney, Australia on the wings of the next Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) biennial conference. The aim is to advance public sector development in the Commonwealth.

The Forum will focus on public management issues and developments, on the implications and challenges for government, and on experiences and lessons learnt from public service responses. Ministers are being asked to set the forward agenda for public sector development. The objectives are to:

• Advance ministers' efforts to build commitment and capacity for good governance;
• Surface strategies and mechanisms to improve service delivery and performance;
• Encourage ministerial leadership of the public sector reform process; and
• Validate priorities that support member country public sector development needs.
