Meeting on Trade and Sustainable Approaches to Fisheries Negotiations under WTO/EPA, 2-4 May 2007

Organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Indian Ocean Commission with the support of the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) and the Detsche Geselleschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)

Objectives of the Meeting:

  1. Build awareness on the EPA negotiations on fisheries and consider the emerging issues arising under the fisheries partnership agreements;
  2. Build awareness of WTO negotiations on fisheries subsidies disciplines 
  3. Facilitate dialogue between the relevant stakeholders i.e. officials from the ministries of trade and fisheries and the private sector on emerging fisheries issues under the EPAs and WTO negotiations.
  4. Identify technical assistance needs and priorities including, subjects requiring further technical analysis in the area of trade and fisheries.
