Small States Digest - Issue 1, 2011

Welcome to the Small States Digest first issue of 2011. This periodic information sharing newsletter from the Commonwealth Secretariat focuses on the needs and interests of Small States.

In this issue, the digest carries three articles namely: “Small states make themselves heard at the WTO.” by Hans Peter Werner; “The Diaspora in Caribbean development: an untapped resource.” by C. Kenrick Hunte; and, “Addressing climate change in the Caribbean – Clean development mechanism” by Norman Munroe.

Werner’s article looks at how the concerns of small states have been addressed through the WTO work programme on small vulnerable economies. The article by C. Kenrick Hunte examines the migration phenomena in the Caribbean and explores ways in which the large Caribbean Diaspora can contribute to the region’s development. Norman Munroe’s article looks at the various elements of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and the opportunities that exist for Caribbean states to pursue sustainable development projects.
