Small States Digest Issue 4 - 2012

Welcome to the fourth issue of the small states digest, a periodic information sharing newsletter from the Commonwealth Secretariat, focusing on the needs and interests of small states.

In this issue, the practices and experiences of Caribbean smallstates are shared in three articles:

• Globalisation and Climate Change: Confronting the Caribbean’s ‘Double Exposure’ by Patricia Northover;
• Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture for Food Security in the Caribbean by Leslie A Simpson; and
• Strengthening the Capacity for Climate Change Resilience in Jamaica’s Rural Areas by Hopeton Peterson and Doneika Simms.

The introductory article by Dr Patricia Northover presents an overview of the 2012 Globalization,Climate Change and Rural Resilience Conference held by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies and sponsored in part by the Commonwealth Secretariat. This conference considered the ‘double exposure’ to globalisation and climate change faced by the region’s many small island developing states. The two other articles in this publication were selectedfrom the conference papers.
