The Commonwealth Consultative Group on Environment (CCGE) is the principal forum for debate on environmental issues of concern to member states. It enables Ministers and senior officials to share experiences in the context of current international processes on environment and sustainable development, convening annually in conjunction with the UNEP Governing Council or the UN Commission on Sustainable Development. The strength of the CCGE is that it provides an opportunity for Ministers to meet outside of the formal negotiations and beyond their usual economic or regional groupings. It is intended that the wider and informal nature of the discussions provides an opportunity for the exploration of concerns of member states, deepening understanding within the negotiated sessions, exploring policy approaches and experiences, and areas where mutual assistance may be fruitfully explored and developed.
The last session of the Commonwealth Consultative Group on Environment was held on 23 February 2011, at the UN Headquarters at Gigiri, Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting discussed priorities for future Commonwealth work on environmentally sustainable development.
