The Hon Stephenson King, Prime Minister
The Hon Stephenson King was sworn in as Prime Minister of St Lucia on 9 September 2007, succeeding the late Sir John Compton. Mr King was Acting Prime Minister since May 2007 following Sir John’s illness.
Mr King is concurrently Minister for Finance, Home Affairs, External Affairs and National Security.
From 1997 to 2006, when the United Workers Party (UWP) was in Opposition, Mr King served in various capacities, including General Secretary and Chairperson of the UWP.
From 1992 to 1997, he served in various portfolios, including Minister for Health, Local Government, Information and Broadcasting.
Mr King was first elected to Parliament in 1987 under the UWP ticket and was appointed Minister for Community Development, Social Affairs, Youth and Sport.
He was a founding member and Chairperson of the Regional Political Youth Organisation and the Caribbean Youth Conference from 1984 to 1995.
Mr King was born on 13 November 1958.
