Prime Minister Danny Philip
The Hon Danny Philip took office as Prime Minister of Solomon Islands on 25 August 2010 after winning the 4 August general election. He is the Leader of the Reform and Democratic Party.
Prior to taking over the country’s leadership, Mr Philip had served in the National Assembly from 1984 to 2001. During this period, he served in various portfolios including Minister of Education, Home Affairs, Trade and Commerce, Foreign Affairs and as Deputy Prime Minister.
Mr Philip was leader of the People’s Progressive Party from 1997 to 2000.
Mr Philip has a Diploma in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He was a teacher and school administrator before entering politics.
Mr Philip was born on 5 August 1953 in Lokuru on Rendova Island in the Western Province of Solomon Islands.
