Sierra Leone - Head of Government

His Excellency Mr Ernest Bai Koroma became President of Sierra Leone in September 2007. He is the leader of the All People’s Congress party, which had previously ruled Sierra Leone from 1967 to 1992. Before becoming president, Mr Koroma was the minority leader in Parliament from 2005 to August 2007.

Before his entry into politics, Mr Koroma was an insurance executive, holding the post of managing director of the Reliance Insurance Trust Corporation. Prior to this, he had worked for the National Insurance Company. Mr Koroma started his working career as a teacher at the St Francis Secondary School in Makeni.

He is a graduate of Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.

Mr Koroma was born on 2 October 1953 in Makeni, Bombali district, Sierra Leone.
