The Hon Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani

The Hon Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani took office as Prime Minister of Pakistan on 25 March 2008.

Syed Yousaf Raza GillaniFrom 1993 to 1997, he was Speaker of the National Assembly. Prior to that, Mr Gillani held the post of Minister for Local Government and Rural Development in 1993 during the interim government.

In 1988, Mr Gillani joined the Pakistan People’s Party and served as Federal Minister for Tourism, Housing and Works until 1990.

Between 1985 and 1986, he served as Federal Minister for Housing and Works, and later took on the Railways portfolio.

Mr Gillani began his political career in 1978 as a member of the Central Working Committee of the Pakistan Muslim League.

He has a Master’s degree in Journalism from Punjab University.

Mr Gillani was born on 9 June 1952 in Karachi.
