The Hon Raja Pervez Ashraf

Raja Pervez AshrafThe Hon Raja Pervez Ashraf took office as Prime Minister of Pakistan on 22 June 2012 after being elected by the National Assembly to succeed his predecessor, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, who was disqualified from holding office by the Supreme Court for contempt of court.

Mr Ashraf was the Secretary-General of the Pakistan People’s Party (Parliamentarians) before taking on the post of prime minister. He was also the Federal Minister for Information Technology and served previously as Minister for Water and Power in the current Pakistan People’s Party-led government.

He has been twice elected as a Member of the National Assembly from his constituency of Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi, in the 2002 and 2008 elections.

He is a graduate from the University of Sindh.

Mr Ashraf was born on 26 December 1950 in Sanghar, Sindh Province.
