Tillman Thomas

The Hon Tillman Thomas was sworn into office as Prime Minister of Grenada on 11 July 2008 after winning the general election on 8 July.

He is concurrently Minister for National Security, Public Administration, Information, and Information Communication Technology and Culture. Mr Thomas is Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was previously Leader of the Opposition from 2003 to June 2008. Mr Thomas co-founded the NDC in 1987 and served as the party’s Assistant General Secretary until 1990.

He was appointed Junior Minister in the Ministry of Labour and was subsequently appointed Minister in the Ministries of Works and Tourism. Earlier in his political career, Mr Thomas joined the Grenada Democratic Movement in 1983, which merged with three other parties the following year to form the New National Party (NNP). The NNP won the 1984 general election with Mr Thomas winning the St Patrick East constituency.  He was appointed Junior Minister in the Ministry of Legal Affairs.

Mr Thomas has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of the West Indies, Barbados, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Fordham University, New York, USA.

He was born on 13 June 1947 in Hermitage, St Patrick, Grenada.
