The Hon Dean Oliver Barrow, Prime Minister

Dean Barrow

The Hon Dean Barrow was sworn in as Prime Minister of Belize on 8 February 2008 following a landslide victory at the general election on 7 February.

He is concurrently the Minister of Finance.

Mr Barrow, Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), had served as Leader of the Opposition from 1998 to February 2008.

From 1993 to 1998, he served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Security, and Attorney-General.

Mr Barrow served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economic Development from 1984 to 1989, after he was elected to the House of Representatives in 1984 as the UDP candidate for the Queen’s Square electoral division.

Mr Barrow has a Master’s degree in Law and International Relations from the University of Miami, Florida, USA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of the West Indies, Barbados.

Mr Barrow was born in Belize City on 2 March 1951.
