Maldives - Constitution
The constitution of the republic provides for an executive president elected on a national level every five years. The legislature, the Citizens’ Majlis, is also elected for a five-year term. All elections are run on a multiparty platform (since 2005). The Majlis comprises 50, two elected from each administrative atoll and Malé, and eight nominated by the president.
