Aid for Trade: Implications for Southern Africa, Pretoria, South Africa, 23- 24 August 2006
The Commonwealth Secretariat, in partnership with the South African National Treasury and the South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA) organized a meeting on Aid for Trade: Implications for Southern Africa, in Pretoria on 23rd and 24th August 2006.
The purpose of the meeting was to bring together trade, finance and development practitioners from Southern and Eastern Africa to exchange ideas on key issues in the Aid for trade debate and consider ways in which countries of the region could take advantage of Aid for Trade.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from Ministries of Trade and Finance of the region, representatives of multilateral institutions and donor agencies and civil society representatives. Discussions were wide-ranging and covered recommendations of the WTO Task Force on Aid for Trade and their implications for the region, perspectives of key multilateral institutions, the Aid for Trade debate as it relates to EPA negotiations and follow-up action to promote a more integrated regional approach to Aid for Trade.
