Collaborative Partnerships

Following the successful 15CCEM, Ministers mandated the Education Section to work with Collaborative Partners in the development and implementation of policies in all six areas of the Edinburgh Action Plan.

School Children PacificThe Section has been working with many civil society partners over the past years and hopes to establish new and dynamic partnerships in the months and years ahead.

Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA)
One particular Partner has been the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA).  This is a network of partners promoting the development of effective education policies based on African leadership and ownership.

Through a series of Working Groups, ADEA addresses policy and practice in all aspects of education in all countries of Africa.  There are particularly close links with the Working Group on Non-Formal Education, the Working Group on Higher Education and the Working Group on the Teacher Profession.  In fact, the Commonwealth Secretariat co-ordinate the WGNFE.

Commonwealth of Learning (COL)
Another key Collaborative Partner is the Commonwealth of Learning based in Vancouver, Canada.  The focus of COL is to extend learning through open and distance mechanisms for learning.  In addition to its many projects throughout the Commonwealth, COL has developed a 'knowledge finder' which keeps track of one million documents from quality assessed sources.  All documents included in the collection are free to access and may be downloaded at http://www.colfinder.org/

Commonwealth Consortium for Education (CCfE)
The Commonwealth Consortium for Education has been established by a group of education-related Commonwealth NGOs, to coordinate their efforts on behalf of Commonwealth education, to stimulate more coherence in their work and to provide a collective mechanism for interaction with ministries and official Commonwealth organisations.
