The Special Advisory Services Division (SASD) is providing technical assistance to the Government of Kiribati in the area of Maritime Boundary Delimitation negotiations with New Zealand, specifically in relation to the maritime boundary with Tokelau - a New Zealand overseas territory.
SASD is providing technical and legal policy advice to assist the Government of Kiribati in its preparation for negotiations. To lend further support to this exercise, SASD will also review Kiribati's maritime legislation in order to provide a sound domestic legal framework. As these negotiations are between two Commonwealth countries, the Secretariat's role has been clarified to both countries.
This project will commence in March 2006 and is due to be completed in June 2007.
