Ms Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba

Ms Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba, from Botswana, took office as Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General on 2 June 2008.

Ms Mmasekgoa Masire-MwambaMs Masire-Mwamba succeeded Mrs Florence Mugasha of Uganda who left the Secretariat on 31 May 2008 after six years in post.

Ms Masire-Mwamba reports to Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma on political affairs, legal and constitutional affairs and youth affairs. She also oversees the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Corporate Services Division, Human Resources Section and the Human Rights Unit.

Ms Masire-Mwamba has held a number of high level positions, including those of Chief Executive of Botswana’s Investment Promotion Agency (BEDIA); Group Manager of Corporate Business and Regulatory Affairs for the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation; and UK Business Development Manager for the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation.

Ms Masire-Mwamba holds a BSc from the University of London, and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, USA.
