There are varied opportunities for work at the Commonwealth Secretariat. Majority of the Secretariat’s staff is based at its London headquarters in Westminster, UK. There is a smaller sub-section of the Secretariat in New York.  Commonwealth's Youth Programme (CYP) has regional headquarters in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Annually, the Secretariat also facilitates recruitment of trained professionals through the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC). People selected for placements are sent to Commonwealth countries needing their technical expertise.

Working for the Commonwealth in London, New York, the CYP regional centres, or through the CFTC could mean a career in any number of areas. Diplomats, lawyers, political analysts, journalists and human resource professionals are just few of the opportunities available.

Additionally, through its varied divisions, the Secretariat also has a team of professionals dedicated to promoting programmes for social and economic empowerment in member states. Some are improving the quality of education in African countries, assisting in the global fight against HIV and AIDs and promoting environmental sustainability.

The London headquarters is home to the Secretary General's Office.  Many of the 300 plus staff and the organisation's key divisions are based here.
