Current and future engagements

The Unit is actively engaged in the human rights dimension of climate change and organised a meeting on climate change on the side lines of the High Level Segment at the Human Rights Council in March 2009. High level seminar for High Commissioners on CEDAW to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2009

• Police Training Workshops in the Maldives from March 22 to 26, 2009, Malaysia from 15 to 19 June and Mauritius from 22 to 26 June 2009. Other similar workshops are being planned for Seychelles, and Papua New Guinea.
  
  
• Work to support the newly established Bangladesh Human Rights Commission, and encouraging other countries to set up theirs.
  
  
• Assisting member countries in the preparation of UPR (countries coming up for review in 2009, 2010 and 2011)
  
  
• Assisting in the implementation of national action plans
  
  
• Promoting human rights awareness among government officials
  
  
• Promoting ratification and implementation of international human rights instruments
  
  
• Publication and dissemination on best practices on human rights
