  • Providing practical and sustainable support for effective socio-economic inclusion of youth, women and other marginalised groups.
  • Facilitating access and integration of young people, women and civil society to governance and national development processes as significant contributors to development, peace and security.

 Who this work affects

Elderly woman in Mumbia, India

The Commonwealth works to raise the potential of its people, particularly women, young people, poor people or those on the margins of our societies.

Half of the Commonwealth is under the age of 25, yet 70 million Commonwealth children have never seen the inside of a school.

Women account for around 50 per cent of the world’s population yet in many countries they remain marginalised from full participation in society.

In addition, many other people are marginalised from their communities for reasons ranging from access to basic health and education services to socio-economic and governance opportunities.
