Provision of Care for People Living with Non-Communicable Diseases
Provision of care for the increasing number of persons living with NCDs requires national policies to be established or strengthened, for essential medicines to be made fully accessible, for health workforces to be trained and equipped to provide effective care and for funding to be sustained.
The Commonwealth Secretariat, the Commonwealth Business Council and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) are well placed to reflect on the challenges of chronic care provision, and to offer a platform for dialogue in exploring innovative ways of overcoming such challenges. As such, these organisations hosted a three hour session on the morning of Saturday 14 May 2011 on this issue, prior to the 64th World Health Assembly, with the aim of engaging both participants from Commonwealth Ministries of Health and health organisations seeking to effectively respond to the needs of persons living with NCDs.
Goal: To explore methods of improving provision of care for people living with NCDs.
Objectives:
I. Explore the challenges of providing chronic care for people living with NCDs;
II. Provide an opportunity for civil society and public sector to engage with the private sector; and
III. Share effective and innovative methods in the provision of chronic care for persons living with NCDs.
