Environmental Mainstreaming and interdisciplinary approaches

We help countries to integrate environment and climate issues with wider national sustainable development and sectoral strategies, frameworks, policies and plans.

  • Research and policy analysis. We research into the links between environment, natural resources and climate change and other development sectors, such as trade, finance, economics and small states. We identify how Commonwealth developing countries can translate the post-Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 2015 framework into practical and meaningful targets and indicators for monitoring and measuring progress on environmental sustainability, protection of natural resources and adapting to climate change within their existing national frameworks and strategies for sustainable development.

  • Advocacy and consensus-building. We support work with Commonwealth members to help shape the post-Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 2015 framework (the Post-2015 Framework) to ensure that environment, natural resources and climate change challenges and needs of developing countries are reflected in this emerging framework, and in particular in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which form an integral part of it.
