Education Ministers

The Commonwealth Secretariat provides support for many meetings of Senior Education Ministers and Officials helping to shape global policy on Education in key areas such as HIV/AIDS and Teacher Recruitment

17CCEM

The 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (17CCEM) took place from 15-19 June in Kuala Lumpur.

The theme for this year’s 50th anniversary conference was ‘Education in the Commonwealth: Towards and Beyond Global Goals and Targets’.

The meeting brought together a diverse range of educational stakeholders, including Education Ministers, senior officials, and representatives from national and international agencies, academics, teachers, NGOs, youth and the private sector.

Commonwealth Education Ministers meet at this key event every three years to discuss issues of mutual concern and interest, share ideas, and challenges and identify future goals and directions.

17CCEM was organised by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Other planning partners include the Commonwealth Foundation, the Commonwealth of Learning, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Commonwealth Teachers’ Group, and Nexus Strategic Partnerships Ltd.

The meeting also included the presentation of the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Awards 2009, which recognises exemplary practice in the field of education.
