Maritime Boundaries

Maritime Boundaries

For many Small Island and coastal countries, their social and economic survival depends largely on the use of marine resources, including living resources like fish and seafood and non-living resources such as oil and gas deposits and seabed mineral reserves.

The establishment of maritime boundaries provides security that is required to support the sustainable use of these living marine resources. The Secretariat, therefore, supports Commonwealth countries such as Guyana, Kenya, Maldives, Mozambique, Seychelles and Solomon Islands on establishing maritime boundaries that are consistent with international law.
