Joined the Bar in 1962.
As practicing Lawyer conducted mostly civil, service and labour matters.
Appointed as the Standing Counsel by the DDA in 1964 to conductArbitration and labour matters. Appointed as panel Lawyer for Northern Railway in 1965 to conduct its service mattersk ask well as recovery suits. Appointed as Additional Standing Counsel for Govt. of NCT to conduct its cases in the High Court of Delhi in 1975. As Additional Standing Counsel for the Government of NCT of Delhi, conducted important matters of far reaching consequences. As a result of the outstanding performance was appointed by the High Court of Delhi directly from the Bar as Additional District and Session Judge, Delhi on 22 April, 1980.
As Additional District & Session Judge, dealt with civil as well as criminal matters and delivered judgment in bride burning cases one of which was of “Shalini Malhotra”. Also dealt with murder matter of Ranjit Singh popularly known as ‘Baba Nirankari” murder case.
Was the first lady to be appointed as the Registrar of the High Court of Delhi on 1st June 1984. Worked as Registrar for three years. In July 1990, was elevated as Judge of the High Court of Delhi.
As Judge of the Delhi High Court, dealt with almost all branches of law. Dealt with Civil, Criminal, Company, Service and above all Constitutional matters. As Presiding Judge of the Bench, delivered the Judgment in the case of Professor Gilani & Others versus State popularly known as “Parliament attack case”. Also took up the case of trafficking in women. As a result of Court’s intervention, about 300 minor girls were rescued from G.B. Road. They were rehabilitated and reintegrated with their families.
After demitting office in November, 2003, was appointed as Chairperson to investigate allegations against the functioning of Council for Homeopathy. Was appointed Chairperson to review cases under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). Presently appointed as Chairperson by Govt. of NCT for regulating the Fee structure for privately managed Institutions offering different courses in Delhi
