  • Can I apply for a job at the Commonwealth Secretariat if the country I am a citizen of is suspended from the councils of the Commonwealth, fully suspended, expelled or has withdrawn?
The Secretariat applicant eligibility requires him/her to be a citizen of a Commonwealth member country. The origins of the Secretariat’s recruitment policies lie in the Agreed Memorandum on the Commonwealth Secretariat (1965) which emphasises the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence and integrity while paying due regard to the importance of recruiting on as wide a geographical basis as possible within the Commonwealth.  Thus the objective of recruitment by the Secretariat is to identify the best possible candidate from the widest possible range of member country citizens.
  • What are your terms and conditions of service for staff?
Reforms to the Commonwealth Secretariat’s terms and conditions for staff were approved in 2012. Information can be found here.
