About the awards

Ministers at 15th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (CCEM) agreed to promote best practice in the 6 Commonwealth education Action Areas of the Edinburgh Action Plan, recommending that the 16th CCEM should be the first occasion for the recognition of these good and promising practices in education.

2006 WinnersFollowing discussion of the Awards programme at each of the 3 Education Mid-Term reviews held in 2005, it was launched on 1 October 2005.

The closing date for the first round of submissions was 31 March 2006. A total of 47 submissions were received from 19 member countries. Twenty one 'Good Practices' were selected in the first round of short-listing that was undertaken on 12 April 2006. Nine finalists were chosen in a second round of adjudication on 5 July 2006 and the awards were presented at the 16th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (16CCEM) in Capetown, South Africa on 14 December 2006.

Submissions are invited for the Education Good Practice Awards, Round Two, which will culminate in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in June 2009 at the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (17CCEM).

Commonwealth Ministries of Education, civil society and non-governmental organizations working in the field of Education are invited to submit good practices on their work in one or more of the 6 Action Areas, by Friday, October 31, 2008.
