The Commonwealth Association

The Commonwealth Association is an international network of people skilled and experienced in international and development affairs.

Members are former staff of Commonwealth inter-governmental and other organisations, as well as of Commonwealth civil society organisations accredited to the Commonwealth Secretariat. They have considerable experience in legal, economic, political, diplomatic, technical assistance, gender and youth affairs, education, health and communication matters.

The association was established in London in 2001 as a means for members to:

  • Support the values of the Commonwealth of Nations;
  • Support the work of the Commonwealth Secretariat;
  • Promote the discussion of subjects of Commonwealth interest; and
  • Provide a social and cultural forum for the pursuit of common interests;
  • Organise activities supporting the above aims, such as the History Matters oral history project for the Commonwealth Secretariat.
